The 39 Hr. Chief Engineer's Course covers the organizational, communication, and technical skills critical to becoming a successful Chief Engineer.  The Chief Engineer must wear many hats: technical advisor, manager, planner, communicator, counselor, and, above all, leader.  These skills take time to develop.  This course will enhance the student's present skills and will demonstrate techniques and procedures that will develop these abilities on the job.

Advanced Engineer Training II (First-Class Upgrade)
Feb. 6 - Jun. 18 (W  6:00 pm - 9:00 pm)

This 60 Hr. course prepares students to take the newly formatted District of Columbia First-Class Steam Engineer exam.  Applicants for the licenses must have at least four years of steam and refrigeration experience and meet the applicable requirements for the exam which they intend to take.  This review course is intense and requires a significant amount of study in conjunction with classroom instruction.

The Energy Conservation Course prepares today's engineer to meet the energy challenges of the future.  Students that complete this extensive training and pass IUOE-proctored exams will receive the designation of Certified Energy Specialist.  In 75 hours of concentrated study, stationary engineers will learn:

Indoor Air Quality

This 75 Hr. course enables students to prevent and correct indoor air quality problems. Emphasis is placed on the development and maintenance of an effective preventative maintenance program. In addition, students are taught the importance of maintaining the HVAC equipment according to manufacturers' specifications.

Basic Boiler Operation

This 60 Hr. course provides students with an introduction to the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of boilers.  In addition, students gain insight into the operation and maintenance of steam plants, turbines, pumps and auxiliaries.

Unveiling the newest addition to our hand-on training equipment, the HVACR Controls System Trainer allows students to gain a thorough understanding of all aspects of a new air conditioning and heating system. This course will be limited to ten students due to the intense hands-on training. Certificates of Competency will be given to those who pass the final exam. Certificates of Completion will be given to students who complete the course. Prior knowledge of HVACR and Electricity fundamentals are a prerequisite for registration.
